11/01/11

Oh ya the day with five ones' has arrived. 2011 (the year, notice the 2 ones), January (the first month) and the 11th day. Ya ya I know what your thinking but give me a break I really couldn't come up with anything else, sorry... ANYWAYSSSS, today in the course we students refer to ICS I made some progress on my calculator code as I finally got the basic code to Mr. Arkin's standards. I'm a happy student now. Today I had a pretty boring day so I can't really say much else, off to do my french culminating....

Procedures, Functions and Procedures!

Hey everybody, just got back from school, what a day! Actually I had a great day. Everything just fell into place to be honest. Started off with a little bit of math to get me awake (didn't really help but let's just say it did). Rushed off to french to sign up for a presentation, came out with great success as I was first and put my name in the coveted last spot. You know saving the best for last (I think). Before I knew it it was time for my favorite part of the day. LUNCH!!!!!! Got lucky with a great lunch (leftovers rock), I pretty much just kicked back and did nothing useful. I even got to ICS early, not my usual time but I'll take it. And about my title, after making the almost all of my executable code into procedures and functions the actual length of the executables is just under 10 lines. And that's short! It was worth the work especially since I now know how to do these parts correctly, what are the chances??? I say somewhere around 100% but that's just my guess. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!
Today in ICS I spent some time working on my non-graphical calculator with my partner to perfect the code. After a bit of hard work and learning a few things for Zelin I was able to present my code to Mr. Arkin. Or so I thought. Turns out that the way I had done the code was not what Mr. Arkin was expecting. Back to the drawing table I go. Shout out to Zelin for the assist (basketball terminology) in making my code short, conscience and efficient. You rock my friend.
Music last period was a breeze. Finally received my sheet music and I almost have the song down packed. Can't complain there. I had a great day, if only more could come like this.

And now for your favorite, USELESS FACT OF THE DAY:

Despite the fact that 77 percent of Americans go to the grocery store with a list, it's estimated that half of everything bought there is bought on impulse. Supermarkets report very strong sales of almost anything they stock at the check-out line.

First Day Back!!!

Dun dun dun dun!!! School is back in session and in full swing. As I got into school at a very early time and none of my friends were around. Disappointment number 1. After everyone got in and the whole "I missed you" and "oh my god, you look so different" thing passed class started. Although everyone knew it, no one wanted to admit it but exam as well as the culminating activities time was closing in on us. Before I could blink my eyes I had received 3 culminating projects and all the study sheets I could carry.
In ICS today my culminating was the Mosaic project. I had to pick one of the possible options up on the board and write an article like document (HTML of course) on the chosen topic. Easy right. Uhmm ya easy, can't complain there.
Alrighty well I'm going to get started on this little project. I shall be back *in a German accent it sounds a lot cooler, try it out for yourself.
Before I go here is your useless fact of the day:

The Paomnnehal Pweor Of The Hmuan Mnid.
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch as Cmabrigde Uinervtisy,
it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are,
the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pclae.
The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm.
Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.
How awesome is that?!?!?!?!?!

WBS, It's got even the best of us.

Yes my friends it's a sad tale but a true one. WBS has taken its tole on us and is spreading quickly. Daily production is ruined by this syndrome (there is the "S" in that). Just like bears, us students, in the winter (there is the "W" in that) tend to hibernate for longer then we would in our daily lives. The break (there is the "B" in that) tends to ruin our sleep schedule. I hope you got it by now but if not here it is. Its the Winter Break Syndrome. It definitely got me, who else has it??? Be honest!!!

So today I didn't do anything too special. I read my some of my french book which I'm not really enjoying and I also played some basketball in the lovely summer weather *I wish. Just layer up and you can easily play a good game.

The highlight of my day was going to a holiday concert. A very famous European performer was in Toronto and my mom managed to get tickets. It was a great concert with some very well known songs as well as some newer ones. Pretty good concert.

Well I'm of for today but as promised yesterday here is The Useless Fact Of The Day.
Today's useless fact comes from http://www.pmbc.com/fact.html. Here it is:

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is the fear of long words.

I'm not even going to try to pronounce that one but you can have fun doing it.

Ok that is it for today.

Doubling up!!!

Alright so here's the deal. Yesterday I was working like a horse trying to get way too many things done so I really had bupkis time (for all of you in my music class you know what I'm talking about) to blog. Hence my title. I'm going to try something extraordinary, something marvelous, something no one has ever done before, I'm going to write 2 days worth of doings in just one blog.

Ok fine, maybe a ton of people have done it before, maybe it isn't so special. Hope I didn't get your hopes up too high.

Anyways yesterday I woke up at a very late 10:30 (call me a bum if you wish) this really didn't give me much time to just chill and relax. I got straight to work as my dad left me a hefty list of things that he wants to be done by the time he came home. He even put a star beside one of them. Can you guess what it was??? Here's a hint: they're bright, tangled, a pain to work with but must be up for Christmas.

You guessed it Christmas lights,  dot dot dot dash (just a little something for the classical music fans).
If you didn't guess it, maybe next time.

Christmas light are a pain in the behind to work with, getting them out of the box and untangling them and then putting them up on a house. I'm telling you it's hard work and hopping up and down on that ladder really kills your legs. I didn't fall and my house is looking pretty darn good.

Then the joys of the dentist came. They numbed half my face, for the next 4 hours the left side of my mouth was looking quite funny. If I ran into a pole I wouldn't have felt anything. It was quite funny though. My little brother had a good laugh and a few free shots at my face.

Good thing I finished my Christmas shopping, I sure hope mommy and daddy like their gifts. The good old sweater should do the trick *I hope. But promise me you won't reveal the secret.

Ah for today we have clear skies with a chance of french homework. That's right everyone Alin is going to be doing, wait for it, HOMEWORK!!! I know, I know I said the same thing but Im determine to put this break to good use and make it helpful.

Alright well that's it for today I'm off to my reading, I'll be here tomorrow though for more exciting stories and just a little notice. From now on I'll be having a little section called "The Useless Fact Of The Day". Hope you guys are looking forward to that.

A fresh start!

Alright, due to a little bit of a mix up in my Blogger account and a bit of inspiration from the one and only Grace Lee I decided to get a fresh start on my bloggin' (love my grammar; hope Mr. Arkin doesn't kill me for that one). So this is it. Let's see how should I start numero 1. I think I got.

WINTER BREAK!!! It's finally here. Three weeks of kicking back and homework. I have a lot to go over this winter break, I'm going to be a busy little boy. I've already got it all planned out, I know it's something unusual but it's something I want to try for the new year (kind of an early new year's revolution). I really want to strive for higher marks for the rest of the semester. I need to put the pedal to the metal and "just do it". Credits to Nike for the quote. I love that quote :). So as I was saying, if I just dig deep get my hands a little dirty I'll finally be able to reach the marks I would be satisfied with.

Now to make this first time thing just a little more interesting I'm gonna give you my top 10 moments of my 2010 year at VP. Here they are.

10. Coming in at number ten is facing of my oldest and closest friends, a brother from an other mother so to speak, during my volleyball season. One year your co-captains leading one team to the playoffs the next your fighting for one playoffs spot on different teams. What a change of pace eh? Now he is my rival for years to come. I love him but I can't loose to him.

9. My number 9 seed has to be learning everything I have so far. Thanks to all the teachers for opening up my eyes and to my friends for helping me out. You guys rock!

8. For the number I wore representing all my sport teams the past few years I have a special moment. Well 2 combined into one. They are making the semifinals for both of the intermural sports. Thanks to all my great teammates for making it all possible.

7. This is a just a little example of how a little bit of early preparation helps. My 2 years of cursive writing paying off in the most unlikely place. A computer course (just think about it).

6. Oh god, getting my first 90+ mark of the year. Bitter sweet as I made a stupid little mistake to ruin a perfect score. *Face palm time.

5. This could go higher up on the list but I guess I'll just put it right here. The number 5 moment is a shout out to all of my "bros" for all the joking around and fun times we had. Big Kev, the one and only Abidi, Mr. Parth Patel and can't forget him Ryan Do-it-up, you know who you are guys. Let's keep the fun times going "bros".

4. 4 four it's going to be the 2010 Holiday concert (just last Friday). It was an amazing concert and everyone had a great time. Good job Jr. Band.

3. Ahh, this is something that means more to me then any other people. I'm referring to my first kill in a highschool volleyball game. It felt great and kinda got me started with my love for volleyball. Just a cool moment.

2. Getting closer to the number one, just this one and were there. My number 2 moment has to be meeting all the amazing people that I didn't know but also reuniting with some old, lost friends. You guys are the best!!!

1. Finally, #1. Anyone that knows me just a little would know that it would be relating to sports. And your right!!! My number one, favorite moment has to making the jr. boys volleyball team. I got a chance to play out a dream and play with some really high level players this year. Thanks you guys, you made me the player I am today. Couldn't have done it without you. Shout out to Henry Chen, my fellow setter and number one target. You rock man.

Alright that it for my novel of a blog, I promise they will get smaller. Tell me what you think about my fresh start.
I'm out...
See you guys l8r
